A Free Worker is someone who, like a self-employed person, accepts work offered and decides for himself whether and when he will carry out the work.
A Free Worker only exists if there is no relationship of authority between the Free Worker and the person (client) who offers the work, which means that there is no employment relationship and no employment contract.
The difference with a self-employed person is that a Free Worker is not registered with the Chamber of Commerce and is not liable for VAT.
A Free Worker is by definition not employed. However, a Free Worker will often be registered with a Broker (pool company) in a pool of Free Workers that has the work carried out by Free Workers.
Often is for a Free Worker the work is not his/her basic income, but an additional income in addition to the basic income. That is why it is particularly attractive for people like students who want to earn some extra money, but at the same time want to retain full control over their time management.
The work provider (Client) has the same advantages as the Free Worker: maximum flexibility. Just as the Free Worker is free to accept work offered (or not), the work provider is free to offer work to the free worker (or not). The work provider may terminate or suspend the work for the Free Worker at any time. When the project is finished, there is no obligation to keep the Free Worker at work and he can send the Free Worker home.
In this way, a work provider (Client) never spends more on costs than the work actually performed. Moreover, because no wage deductions need to be made from the compensation for the Free Worker, a Free Worker is generally cheaper than a temporary worker.
Using a Free Worker is subject to strict conditions to prevent a fictitious employment relationship; Therefore, please read the entire text on this site carefully, especially the legal part, before you engage with an independent Free Worker.
An example of a nationally operating pool company with a pool of Free Workers is InDat, where Free Workers are deployed for data entry work and office help such as working from home or placed with customers (see also office help).
